Country Fair

This was our first year attending the annual McDonald's Corners Fall Fair.  This was their 161st year!  We weren't sure what to expect.  It was amazing!  The kids played games.

There was fishing for ducks

And Frogs

There were races

Three legged races with new friends, and newer friends

Finnlee and her new friend Finn!

The egg toss

Even the adults got into the egg toss
Chris and my Dad won!

There were lots of animals to pet.  This was the sweetest goat I've ever seen!

Solstice loved her
And there were prizes.  Our pumpkin and butternut squash won 1st place!
Each of the kids won prizes for their crafts.  We had so much fun, we are already planning our entries for the fair next year!

What do kids do?

What do city kids do when they move to the country?

They play "Master Chef" with wild plants.  They don't eat their creations, but we are learning about the wild edibles available to us

They build tree forts

They find junk treasure

Ancient tractor seat and pitch fork

Old leather straps and buckles from horse harnesses and who knows what else

Tin pails and other maple syrup processing equipment

An old wood cook stove so rusted out that only this door could be salvaged.  Findlay was a local stove manufacturer from many years ago

The old sugar shack with grain processing equipment hidden in the rubble

The swing provides hours of entertainment

And there are lots of campfires.  Even the chickens enjoy the campfire, or at least they enjoy stealing the food roasted on it

Zander started his own business here.  "Wood Workz".  He makes creations with natural materials found on the property.  He started by carving "wallet wood", short sticks about an inch long, tapered on both ends.  They bring you luck when you carry them around in your wallet.  He also makes purse wood, torches, walking sticks, and swords.

His wooden money box.  He sets up his table at the end of the driveway.  Even on our very quiet, dead end street he has made quite a bit of money already!

His newest items are fairy garden creations.  He makes fairy swing sets, slides, benches, tables, chairs, wishing wells, mail boxes, and fairy doors.
Even babies have fun just exploring nature.  There is so much to do here, with chores, new building projects, and exploring, there is very little time for boredom!
